Hosted on 1 September 2026, representatives from the Department of Health provided an overview of the Declaration Notices and their implementation with CAIA members being afforded the opportunity to raise any issues of concern for discussion and request clarification regarding the Declaration Notices gazetted on 4 April 2026.

Declaration Notices were regarding the categorisation of hazardous substances as Group I – Category A, Group 1 – Category B and Group II in terms of the Hazardous Substances Act, 1973. The Declarations come into effect six months after the date of publication of the Notice. Following several engagements with the Department of Health regarding the chemical industry issues of concern with the Declaration Notices, the Minister of Health subsequently published a Notice extending the date of implementation for a period of 18 months from the date of publication, 13 March 2026.
