Trade plays a vital role in enabling the movement, growth, and competitiveness of the chemical and allied industries. Through active engagement in both local and international trade forums, CAIA ensures that its members are well represented and informed.
CAIA’s Trade-Related Activities and Representation
Trade Data and Analysis
- Analysis of monthly chemical trade flows by an external service provider.
- Production of consolidated quarterly reports.
- Production of industry-specific focus reports across 11 chemical sub-sectors.
National Trade Representation
- Representation of CAIA members on the Technical Sectorial Liaison Committee (Teselico) at Nedlac.
- Contribution to the review and improvement of national trade agreements.
Regional Trade Engagement
- Member of the SADC Business Council, where trade is a standing agenda item.
- Active in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Private Sector Platform and the dtic’s National Implementation Committee for the AfCFTA.
Global Trade Participation
- Engages with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and participates in WTO Ministerial Conferences and Public Forums.
