Fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee
(INC 5)

Summary of Intent
Negotiations on the plastics agreement were suspended on 2 December 2024 without reaching a finalised text. The meeting agreed that a resumed session with further negotiations was necessary to develop the legally binding instrument. It was also agreed that the Chair’s text that was circulated on 1 December 2024 would be used as the starting point for further negotiations, without prejudice for Members to propose modifications, additions, and deletions. The date and location of the resumed session (INC5.2) will be determined and communicated in due course.
