The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries (DEFF) appointed a Panel of Experts to Provide an Independent and Sustainable Approach for the Management of Sulphur Dioxide Emissions from Existing Plants on 16 May 2019. The panel officially resumed duty on 7 October 2019. As part of their work, they are required to liaise with various organisations for relevant information needed for the success of their assignment. The panel’s work will include site visits and interviews with relevant persons from various organisations. Consultation on the Draft Revised National Waste Management Strategy

The Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries has published a Draft Revised and Updated National Waste Management Strategy (NWMS), for public comment. The strategy is a revision and update of the 2011 strategy and builds on the successes and lessons from the implementation of that strategy. The strategy provides government policy and strategic interventions for the waste sector that are intended to provide an enabling environment for the projects identified in the 2017 Chemicals and Waste Phakisa. The basis of the application is derived from section 14 of the MYPD Methodology which provides for Risk Management Device administered by way of the RCA. The BMA Bill lapsed following the dissolution of the last (5th) Parliament, and had to be resuscitated in the new (6th) Parliament. The amended Bill has not yet been published.
