Workshop to Create a Vision for ‘A Good Life’ in South Africa 2050

Summary of Intent
The DFFE is hosting a workshop to obtain stakeholder input on what a low carbon pathway looks like taking into account the social and economic issues facing the country. The inputs will help the South African government to fulfil the commitment and responsibilities for addressing climate change, as outlined in the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). The inputs will guide future development of pathways to achieve the good life and help understand what is needed to deliver improved services, to reach a net zero greenhouse gas emissions goal in 2050.

South African National Water Resources Infrastructure Agency (NWRIA) SOC Limited Bill

Summary of Intent
As reported in Advocacy Alert 41/2023, comments were invited on the Bill with a closing date of 4 November 2023. An analysis has been made by the Research Unit of Parliament of the submissions received during the comment period to establish the number of people or entities that either supported or did not support the establishment of the NWRIA and their respective reasons. The Committee received 120 submissions of which 90 (75%) did not support, while 10% of the submissions supported the NWRIA Bill.
