The PWP was established in 2019 with the goal to improve and promote the environmentally sound management of plastic waste and prevent and minimise their generation. A webinar will be held to launch the Forum on Extended Producer Responsibility for Plastic Wastes. A series of webinars will be held to explore diverse aspects of setting up and implementing EPR schemes affecting plastic waste management in key sectors and how such schemes function to promote the environmentally sound collection, logistics and processing of plastic wastes. Forum events will highlight innovative approaches, mechanisms for informal sector inclusion and addressing challenges in countries with limited capacity for waste management. BUSA has expressed their concern about the systematic dysfunction of the UIF. Despite engagement of government at the National Economic Development and Labour Council for the last three years, no progress has been made. The systemic dysfunction has resulted in lengthy delays in application processes, including via online systems, receiving incorrect information, or constant changes in requirements.
