Carbon Tax: Carbon Budget Allowance
Summary of Intent
CAIA and BUSA are advocating for clarity with regards to the continuation of the Carbon Budget allowance under the Carbon Tax regime. Letters of confirmation of the applicability of the allowance that companies need to provide to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) to ensure the allowance is taken into account during the calculation of Carbon Tax liability are only applicable up to the end of 2022. This is when the Climate Change Bill was expected to be finalised – resulting in the falling away of the allowance as carbon budgets would have become mandatory.
