Identification of the Minister as Competent Authority

Summary of Intent

This Notice declares the Minister of the Department of Environmental Affairs as the competent authority for the consideration and processing of applications for environmental authorisations related to the implementation of greenhouse gas mitigation action in terms of international commitments that are made. Authorisations that are based on activities set out in the Integrated Resource Plan (2010 – 2030) are now included in the Minister’s powers.

Copyright Amendment Bill

Summary of Intent

The Minister intends to introduce the Copyright Amendment Bill into Parliament this month. The amendments that are proposed include those to certain definitions as well as to provide for protections, accreditation and registration, access to copyright works, fair use, the establishment of the Intellectual Property Tribunal and matters connected therewith, prohibited conduct, the management of digital rights, to promote the broadcasting of local content and for new offences.
