Survey: Currency Risk and Risk Management

Summary of Intent

National Treasury is conducting a survey in partnership with Rand Merchant Bank on the currency hedging practices of South African businesses. The objective is to understand how the rand’s behaviour affects companies – and how they have to respond – to design more supportive policy.An initial survey was undertaken during 2013 and is being repeated this year given the sharp depreciation in the currency since then.

Department of Water and Sanitation National Water Act

Proposed Classes of Water Resources and Resource Quality Objectives for Catchments

Summary of Intent

In the Legislation Bulletin of 28 November 2014, CAIA reported on the publication of the proposed classes of water resources for various catchments. These classes represent the management objectives (commitment) of the Department for each respective part of each respective catchment. CAIA provided comment to the Department on the Notices at the time.The Notices published previously will be replaced by the following draft notices that now also include the Resource Quality Objectives (RQOs) for each respective part of each respective catchment. This is a critical addition as RQOs are the parameters which dischargers will need to meet before discharging into a receiving resource.
