Rising Municipal Electricity Debt Levels are a National Challenge

The rising municipal electricity debt levels have become a national challenge. The debt of the highest 10 owing municipalities has increased by approximately 53% year-on-year. In total Eskom is owed R13.57 billion from municipal electricity consumption. Eskom plans to interrupt electricity supply to a number municipalities in order to drive payment of, and/or agreement to settle, the debt. Lead in Paint Phase Out Technical Working Group

Following the identification of initiatives at the Department of Environmental Affairs’ (DEA) Chemicals and Waste Economy Phakisa held last year, the phase-out of lead in all paint (not just decorative paint) has been fast tracked as a project, to reduce lead in paint to less than 90 parts per million.
