Revised zero draft

Following negotiations at the third session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-3) that took place from 13 to 19 November 2023, a revised zero draft document has been published by the INC Secretariat. The revised zero draft document will be the basis for discussion at the fourth session of the INC that is scheduled to take place from 23 to 29 April 2024 in Ottawa, Canada. An invitation has been issued to the launch and panel discussion of a new report that focuses on addressing problematic, unnecessary and avoidable plastic products at a global level. It presents possible criteria for determining plastic products into three distinct classifications - problematic, unnecessary, and avoidable - with the aim to ultimately phase them out. The report suggests options for how this can be achieved by promoting alternate practices or non-plastic substitutes, and by redesigning essential plastic products for safety and sustainability.
