Responsible® Care Verification
EVERY THREE YEARS, VERIFICATION OF COMPLIANCE IS CONDUCTED BY TRAINED RESPONSIBLE CARE® AND PROCESS SAFETY AUDITORS USING THE RESPONSIBLE CARE® AUDIT GUIDANCE DOCUMENTS.
Logistics Service Providers, as allied members undergo the Safety and Quality Assessment for Sustainability - Africa (SQAS-AFRICA) audits originally developed by the European chemical industry council, CEFIC. The verification team looks for answers to three key questions:
- 01Is the company meeting the expectations outlined in the Responsible Care® Codes of Management Practice?
- 02Is an effective management system in place that supports Responsible Care®, and drives continual improvement, in all areas?
- 03Is the company’s commitment to the Responsible Care® Guiding Principles for Sustainability tangible, and does it guide the company’s judgement, decisions and actions, internally and externally?
The third-party verification team then prepares a report summarising its conclusions, identifying opportunities for improvement, and pointing out any areas requiring corrective action. Companies are expected to communicate the results of the verification exercise to their employees and other stakeholders.
CAIA’s continued oversight of its members’ operations through verification sets Responsible Care® apart from other industry sustainability initiatives.
