Zero Emissions Day – 21 September 2018

Earth is counting on us to take care of our planet. Whether you are driving your own car or making use of public transport, you leave a footprint that helps pollute the world.

Zero Emissions Day gives us an opportunity to make a difference, even if for only one day, to reduce our emissions footprint.

The direct aim of Zero Emissions Day is a global 24 hour moratorium on the use of fossil fuels with the following simple guidelines:

  • don’t use or burn oil, gas or coal
  • minimise (or eliminate) your use of electricity generated by fossil fuels
  • don’t put anyone in harm’s way: all essential and emergency services operate normally
  • do your best, have fun, enjoy the day!

“These guidelines may not be achievable in the chemical industry, as we cannot simply stop production or services. As private citizens we can, however, try to make a plan by walking or cycling to work, or instead of travelling to work and back in private vehicles, make use of public transport, thereby reducing the amount of carbon monoxide entering the sphere,” says Deidré Penfold, Executive Director of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association (CAIA).
