World Water Day – 22 March 2018

Looking at nature to find solutions for the world’s water challenges? Indeed!

“Wherever you are and whatever you do on World Water Day on March 22, make it about nature and water,” says Deidré Penfold, Executive Director of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association (CAIA).

World Water Day draws attention to the importance of fresh water and advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
This year the theme is Nature-based Solutions for Water.

Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption, and today 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home; affecting their health, education and livelihoods.

Since ancient times, human beings have been polluting and defiling water resources.

Sustainable Development Goal 6 commits the world to ensuring that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution.
“We, as individuals and as the chemical sector, are in control of how we look after our water resources. To continue to survive on this planet, we need to find safe measures to integrate our lives and industry with nature,” says Penfold.
