The year 1972 marked a turning point in the development of international environmental politics, the first conference on environmental issues, convened under the auspices of the United Nations, was held from 5 – 16 June in Stockholm.
Known as the Stockholm Conference. The goal was to forge a common outlook on how to address the challenge of preserving and enhancing the human environment.
The day has developed into a global platform for acting on environmental issues. Millions of people have taken part over the years, helping drive change in consumption habits, as well as in national and international environmental policy.
Every day, environmental professionals work behind the scenes to protect the planet, safeguard communities, and shape a more sustainable future. On 15 April will be a moment to recognise the scientists, analysts, advocates, and policymakers who dedicate their careers to balancing environmental, social, and economic needs.
15 April marks the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci was a master of many disciplines, including the sciences, allowing his birthday to recognise environmental professionals. From scientists to policy experts, these dedicated individuals work to uphold environmental, social, and public health standards, ensuring a balanced ecosystem and quality of life for present and future generations.
