Chemical Logistics Management Forum (CLMF)

Chemical Handling

CAIA is the custodian of Responsible Care® in South Africa and as such undertakes the task of promoting the responsible handling of chemicals throughout their lifecycle. Inter alia the fundamental features of RC require the open communication on health, safety and environmental matters with interested parties, both inside and outside the industry, and to allow the opportunity for the sharing of views.The Chemical Logistics Management Forum strives to provide a forum to meet these requirements.

Objectives of the Forum

To facilitate an exchange of information between members on the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals.

To create an opportunity to establish dialogue with stakeholders, government, the SABS and other relevant bodies (e.g. the RFA).

To participate in initiatives or give guidance in initiatives concerning the health, safety and environmental impact of the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals.

To identify concerns regarding the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals and participate in finding solutions.

To guide CAIA in policy and strategy relating to the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals.

To address concerns regarding standards and legislation and their application as well as compliance issues and control issues.

Role of the Forum

To promote dialogue between members and stakeholders regarding the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals.

To encourage responsible behaviour in the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals.

To participate in the development of legislation and national standards pertaining to the handling, storage, transport and distribution of chemicals, including updates and mandates for standards. This would include participation in sub-committees and working groups of StanSA and interfacing with the relevant government departments.
04
To promote and facilitate responsible behaviour in the handling, storage, transport and distribution of hazardous chemicals including hazard communication, documentation and legal compliance.
