CAIA Advocacy Committee
A need for a CAIA Environment Committee (“the EnCo”) that facilitated direct engagement with members of the Association as well as the provision of substantive and company-specific inputs towards advocacy initiatives in the environmental arena, was previously identified, established and implemented. It has since been reviewed and agreed to rename it to the CAIA Advocacy Committee that will:
- respond to members’ needs (updates and advocacy initiatives, for example);
- expand its focus to include all identified policy and legislative matters;
- enable strategic prioritisation of matters on the basis of importance and timeframes; and
- establish Work Groups from the entire CAIA membership that will consider specific challenges as they may arise, and respond with inputs to CAIA, to achieve the
- purpose given below.
The establishment of the CAIA Advocacy Committee aims to provide a cooperative environment where views can be shared and strategies developed, to:
- enhance the chemical and allied industries’ advocacy initiatives when responding to the development and/or amendment of legislation and/or policies by Government; and
- identify members’ implementation challenges.
Constructive input should be provided to CAIA to:
- encourage the effective strategic review of policy and legislation so that there is an emphasis on the impact of legislation and policy;
- mitigate the pressures that increased regulation places on the cost of doing business; and
- facilitate continual improvement by Responsible Care® signatories.
Quarterly meetings will be held at the CAIA offices for policy and legislative updates to be provided, and for strategic matters to be discussed and planned for. Short, weekly teleconferences will allow operational matters to be discussed, such as the prioritisation of the formation of Work Groups. The weekly Advocacy Alerts and Trade Bulletins, as well as specific CAIA communiques, will provide the subject matter for these weekly discussions.
