Third Party Verification of Responsible
Care
Third party verification is now a requirement of Responsible Care with
verification of large companies (>/ = 250 employees and/or annual production
> / = 1 000 000 tonnes) being due by the end of September 2006.
Responsible Care verification of small and medium companies (< 250
employees and/or annual production < 1 000 000 tonnes) is due by the end of
September 2007.
Companies who implement environmental and health and safety management
standards such as ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 can arrange to include their
Responsible Care verification in their routine ISO and OHSAS audits.
During Third Party Verification of Responsible Care (RC), the maximum
score which can be attained at first audit is 3.0 for Practice in Place.
At subsequent audits a score of 4 is awarded for Practice in Place
Maintained.
The results of the audits are categorised and defined as follows:

Responsible Care Verification
As Responsible Care verification is not a certification system,
verification auditing does not have to be arranged through a certification body
and can be carried out by independent auditors approved by CAIA. Only CAIA
approved auditors may be used for third party verification of Responsible
Care.
